2025-hurricane-season-forecast
The Colorado State University (CSU) forecast for the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season has raised concerns, predicting an above-average year in terms of storm activity. According to their early April outlook, eleven hurricanes are expected, with five reaching major hurricane status (Category 3 or higher). In total, 23 named storms are forecasted—well above the average of 14.
This increase in activity is linked to the anticipated transition from El Niño to La Niña conditions, which tend to reduce wind shear in the Atlantic, allowing storms to grow stronger. Additionally, record-warm Atlantic Ocean temperatures are fueling the potential for more intense systems.
